Addiction vs Meditation

Addiction vs Meditation

These days we are addicted. To our phones. Some to alcohol.

If you’re removing an addiction, or getting sober, it feels like something is being taken away. Reframe it. Something bad is being taken away and the emptiness is good.

When it comes to emptiness, there’s two sides. There’s negative emptiness, which is loneliness. And there’s positive emptiness which is calmness.

You might be trying to escape from loneliness. Instead, try to connect to emptiness in the good sense. It means that there is no danger, and you can access a state of focused productivity. It is less exciting, but enjoyable in its own way. You can learn to enjoy it if you don’t already.

The meditation I teach is not just sitting there closing your eyes because it’s not good to have your mind wander aimlessly. It can go into dark places…and most people can’t do it for long.

Meditation as people know it, is actually an advanced yogi meditation. It’s taught to the population without going through the steps to build up to that advanced place of happiness, and can leave some feeling empty in a negative way.

Of course some people feel better. Some people are taught not to worry about the thoughts that come in and out. Or they use visualizations, which is helpful too. All of this is good, but Qi Gong is much more powerful because it focuses on healing energy.

This healing energy is subtle, but when you learn how to use it, you will see changes in your life. This energy lasts longer than whatever you’re addicted to, and you can connect to it anytime outside of your practice to regain energy. That’s far better than anything you’ll learn elsewhere.
