There’s a documented study of someone who had testified in court as a witness to a crime. The criminal had jumped out of a car, stole someone’s purse, and drove off. The witness swore that the criminal was wearing a red shirt. We find out later on, that the criminal was wearing a white shirt, not a red shirt. The incident occurred near a red stop sign. She didn’t realize that her brain subconsciously switched the colors of the shirt and the sign. The pieces of information got mixed up without her knowing it. She really believed she was right. In fact, she was an honest person, trying to be helpful.
This is slightly terrifying because we cannot trust our memory to be accurate. Actually, there’s another rule in psychology that says every time we recall a memory it’s slightly different because of the way it travels through the brain. Our memory is not reliable. It’s distorted.
It’s a little frightening to recognize that we cannot trust ourselves.
But psychology is not everything in life. These are studies to indicate to us how people function and how the brain works. Clearly there’s a higher source, a higher power that assists us to function, as we are not perfect and cannot function on our own.
Even our heart beats without us thinking about it. There’s an energy in the body that moves the body. This energy is called Chi. In spirituality, people believe this is connected to a higher source. A Creator that unifies all life as one. When we connect to it, we become more powerful than our body. There’s more to life than what we see.
Do you feel that?
